It’s been a little while since I’ve reviewed one of our beloved Stairway to CEO brands, but I’m back again and today I’ll be reviewing a recent brand we had on the show…Wunderkeks!
Wunderkeks is a company that not only sells unbelievably delicious cookies but sees every sweet treat as a pathway to the rituals that allow us to connect with one another. What sets Wunderkeks apart is their commitment to using only high-quality, natural ingredients in their cookies. They are made with real butter, cage-free eggs, and no artificial preservatives or flavors. This dedication to using wholesome ingredients ensures that each cookie is delicious and nourishing.
Before we dive deeper into what makes Wunderkeks great, we, of course, have to dig into the brand's history, and what better way to do so than reviewing our recent episode with Founder and CEO, Hans Schrei!
Hans joined Lee on the show and reflected on his upbringing in Guatemala and the challenges of being queer in a conservative Catholic society before recounting his journey as an entrepreneur and the story of how Wunderkeks went from being sold at farmer’s markets to gaining massive online orders, practically overnight. Hans also shares some of the key lessons he’s learned from fundraising and leaves listeners with the one piece of advice he believes is imperative for founders to persevere and thrive.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, we can get into the best part: the cookies! Upon arrival, the cookies come delivered in a really fun, bright, and colorful box! It’s definitely a little bit of happiness to make your day even better. The joyful box is just one of the representations of the joy Wunderkeks brings to the world on a daily basis.
Not only did the box come stacked with twelve cookies, but it also came with some fun sprinkles! One thing that really impressed me about Wunderkeks was their packaging. Apart from the box being bright and colorful, each cookie comes individually wrapped, which means that they stay fresh for a longer period of time. This is especially great if you want to enjoy a cookie on the go or pack them for a trip. I personally carried one in my lunch box every day. The best part is that they are compostable bags, which means that you can enjoy a delicious treat without harming the environment! My only feedback regarding the individual packaging is that they weren’t labeled so it was hard to tell each cookie apart, especially the Chocolate Chip and Everything cookies.
The cookies come in a wide variety of flavors, from classic chocolate chip to unique flavors like lemon lavender and chai spice. Each cookie is baked to perfection, with a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. The Greatest Hits Variety box is a solid one to start with as it comes with something for everyone. A classic chocolate chip cookie, a brownie cookie for chocolate lovers, and the everything cookie for those of us who like those unique flavors.
My personal favorite of the three was The Everything Cookie, a unique and delicious twist on the classic "everything" bagel. This flavor is perfect for anyone who loves savory snacks or enjoys a combination of salty and sweet flavors. The Everything flavor is made with a blend of high-quality ingredients, including poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic, onion, and sea salt. These flavors combine to create a delicious and savory cookie that's both crispy and chewy. The Everything flavor is also a great option for anyone who likes to experiment with different flavors and textures. The blend of savory and sweet flavors creates a unique taste that's unlike anything else. Plus, the crispy texture of the cookies adds a satisfying crunch that's hard to resist.
You can’t go wrong with a classic Chocolate Chip cookie but my second favorite had to be the Brownie. It truly is a chocolate lover's dream come true! The combination of cocoa powder and chunks of premium chocolate creates a truly indulgent chocolate experience that's hard to beat. I kept wanting to take this cookie, warm it up, and eat it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s seriously so good.
Overall, I would highly recommend Wunderkeks to anyone who loves cookies. These delicious treats are made with high-quality ingredients, come in a variety of flavors, and are packaged in a sustainable way. Plus, the brand is truly creating cookies to change the world, by creating safe spaces to help encourage and support conversations about sexuality. What better mission is that? Whether you're looking for a sweet snack or a treat to share with friends, Wunderkeks is definitely worth trying!
