Product Review: Italic

Written by: Kaylee Franklin

Luxury Without Labels. That’s what this week’s product review is all about. I’ll admit…I’m a fan of luxury items, but I don't like the price tags that come with them. If only there were a way to have luxury items without the branded label.

Lucky for all of us…there is! Thanks to companies like Italic, we’re beginning to see a new shift in luxury. For those who don’t know, Italic is a marketplace that offers high-quality products at low prices. Founded by Jeremy Cai in 2018, with the idea that customers shouldn't have to pay a premium just for a label, Italic seeks to create a world where everyone can afford to live well.

When perusing Italic’s site, they offer products in every category you can think of: clothes, shoes, accessories, bags–all items for both men and women–home items, jewelry, beauty, travel, and even products for your furry friends! They’ve truly thought of everything.

I had been wanting a weighted blanket for a while now, but I’ve always struggled with the style of them. They’re never classic, or beautiful, just boring and all the same looking. That was until I stumbled upon the one from Italic. It’s listed as the Chunky Knit Weighted Blanket and sells for $120. Compared to a lot of the other weighted blankets I was looking at, this one met all my standards. It comes in three color options, is so incredibly soft, and sells itself on being breathable- which is a plus because I can sleep with it year-round, which is a huge selling point for me being a Florida resident!

Although I've loved sleeping with and using my weighted blanket, I would err on the side of caution if you have a puppy currently potty training. Sadly for me, my sweet pup went potty on my blanket and it has been rather challenging to clean being that it’s only hand washable, and the liquid seeped through the knot knitting. Not a point to make me never want to use it again though! I’ve cleaned it…don’t you worry!

One of the unique things about Italic is that they’re intentional with every item on their site. In the description of the item, they explain it with a punchy title and an explanation of why they chose it, the best part about it, or how they would use it.

The other unique thing about Italic, that sets them apart from other retailers is that they use a price analysis on their website. For every product listed, you can find the price analysis listed below the item. The example below is one from the Aluminum Carry-On Suitcase.

They also include a graphic to show the journey from the manufacturer to the consumer, in that when you purchase something from Italic, it's going straight to you, instead of journeying through four other areas. See the image below for details.

In our most recent episode with Italic’s founder, our host Lee Greene asked Jeremy why he decided to include these important details on their website. For the Italic team, it was a way to help determine the two different types of purchasing behaviors. Of course, if you’d like to learn more about Italic we encourage you to listen to Episode 106: Luxury Without Labels

As always, I've fallen in love with another brand that is pioneering a new path. I’ll be heading to Italic for all of my luxury needs.
