Product Review: DEUX

Written by Kaylee Franklin

This week I was looking through all the episodes we’ve ever published and began realizing how many of the amazing brands I haven’t gotten to try yet, so I decided to put one of them to the test this week.

I headed to my local grocery store where I’ve seen this legendary brand on the shelves. The brand I will be testing out today is DEUX, a functional foods brand that believes good-for-you products should taste good. Made with high-quality ingredients and enhanced with added boosts of supplements, their products are all vegan, gluten-free, and without jumping to the review…taste delicious.

We were first introduced to DEUX in Episode 70: Rolling in the DEUX, when Lee sat down with the Founder and CEO, Sabeena Ladha.

Just as a refresher, in this episode, Sabeena shared with us her journey from growing up in Texas as a first-generation American, to building the venture studio known as Launch Pad at M13 in Los Angeles, to starting her own company DEUX on Instagram by taking orders via direct message and accepting payments over Venmo. Soon after the episode aired, Sabeena went on ABC’s Shark Tank, to pitch DEUX and receive funding from the Sharks. She was offered some deals, but Robert Herjavec decided to pull out.

Sabeena walked out of Shark Tank empty-handed, but DEUX has continued to see success. With an amazing seed round, they’ve begun launching in retailers nationwide including one near me in the panhandle of Florida. I headed there this week to scope out the flavors and decided to pick up the two of three flavors they had available, as the Chocolate Chip Cookie flavor was sold out.

One thing I love about DEUX is the packaging. They made sure to use jars that can be recyclable, and even provide tips on how to continue to use them after you’ve eaten up all your cookie dough. Not only are they recyclable, but the branding is on point. Each jar gets its own color, making them stand out on the shelves.

First out of the two I got to try is Brownie Batter. Which if you haven’t noticed, anything chocolate is my absolute favorite. I was pumped to try this flavor and got even more excited when I read the ingredients including Aloe Vera and Vitamin C for Collagen Boost, let's not forget the mini chocolate chips throughout the DEUX.

I was a little nervous about the texture at first because although it looks like normal cookie dough, it’s also vegan and gluten-free and those two things combined can sometimes make for a bad texture, but this was creamy and delicious. This is one of the first vegan and gluten-free desserts I’ve tried that I genuinely have thought “oh I want more.” The best part…you can eat the DEUX right from the jar, or bake some cookies with it. I haven’t made cookies with it yet, but I’m sure they are equally as amazing and delicious.

Next up was Birthday Cake, a flavor I feel like you can never truly go wrong with. This flavor is specifically made to help with stress relief as the enhancer is Ashwagandha Extract. My first bite was a little off to me, so after a palette cleanse with some water I took another bite. It reminded me of a specific treat I have had before.

Although I do get a lot of Birthday Cake flavor in this one, I couldn’t get past what it was reminding me of…a protein bar. I really do like the flavor, and the hint of sprinkles throughout, but with each bite I took it reminded me more of a protein bar due to its texture. Which, in the end, I suppose isn’t a bad thing because it's still a treat I’ve been going to my fridge to get more of.

Fortunately for us, DEUX has a lot of flavor combos and drops that make their cookie DEUX stand out. From S’mores and Mint Chocolate Chip, to Cinnamon Roll, it can be hard to decide what flavor to get. If I were you, I’d opt in for the Best Sellers Pack or their Limited Drop Pack.

Not only do they have what feels like endless amounts of cookie DEUX options to choose from, but they also have DRIP. Which is their rendition of hazelnut butter, but in Cookie Butter and Coca spread. Sign me up!

If you haven’t gotten your hands on these delicious and better-for-you cookie doughs...sorry, DEUX’s, what are you waiting for? Oh, and when you do, can you let me know how they are when you put them in the oven to make some glorious cookies?
